Germany's Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources. In April and May 2019 it organised a survey of artisanal mines in Lualaba and Haut-Katanga with field teams from BGR, the Carter Center and SAEMAPE, registering 102 artisanal copper-cobalt mines, 58 of them with detailed data, and checking their legal status against the CAMI licence register and the CTCPM and SAEMAPE cooperative registers; ITIE-RDC's 2025 report draws on that study. It implements the programme “Sustainable economic development and responsible supply chains in the mining sector II” (July 2024 to June 2027), funded by BMZ and the European Union, which maps small-scale copper-cobalt mining and evaluates due-diligence risk. For Cobalt for Development it developed cobalt-specific training material for cooperatives and miners from 2019 and is named among the co-developers of the five modules; C4D's own stakeholder annex describes the tie as technical exchange for complementarity, and both descriptions are given here.
