Training and weekly on-site coaching of artisanal cooperatives, and training of trainers for SAEMAPE and the cooperatives. By its own count (paper p.24): 23 cooperatives trained, 312 miners trained on health and safety, 17 SAEMAPE agents trained as trainers, more than 200 coaching visits, 115 protective-equipment kits and 11 environmental assessments, with more than 20,000 miners counted as indirect beneficiaries. Its former website gave 14 cooperatives assisted since October 2020 and 36 mining experts trained with SAEMAPE. The figures are unaudited, and the paper’s p.24 footnote defines “training” and “coaching” the other way round from p.21.

With Good Shepherd International Foundation / Bon Pasteur in Kisote and the villages of Tshikopo and Kitanika: a school with a free lunch, teacher training, literacy and vocational training for women and girls, savings groups, farmer business schools, and awareness work on civic education, gender and domestic violence. The former website counts a school for 600 children aged 6 to 15, a bakery run by two women’s associations, 306 people who increased their savings, and 166 farmers trained in six farming cooperatives; Volkswagen’s 2025 report gives about 3,000 people with better living conditions, and a 2024 thesis more than 72 businesses created, a figure drawn from C4D’s own reporting.

The original plan was to replicate the approach on up to two artisanal zones (ZEA) and then at scale; since 2024 the pilot is EGC’s Tombolo site.
