ZEA 078 Kisote

Artisanal exploitation zone ZEA 078 at Kisote, in Lualaba, the first candidate pilot site of Cobalt for Development. C4D's paper records that the zone's legal status was confirmed and that the Lualaba mining ministry explored it with local private companies; drilling in the second quarter of 2019 was promising, but final drilling showed the deposits too deep for artisanal extraction and the work stopped. The date of that end is given two ways: the paper's narrative implies December 2019, its chronology reads “2020 Cancellation of pilot due to geological result of Kisote”, and an October 2020 release still described a site under evaluation next to Kisote. The 2019 launch releases describe the selected pilot site only as “near the town of Kolwezi”; no source gives Kisote's distance or direction from the town. The village of Kisote hosted C4D's community component from September 2019 to early 2023, including a new seven-classroom building for its public elementary and secondary school, inaugurated on 26 October 2020.
