The cobalt industry's global trade association. Registered in England and Wales as a private company limited by guarantee, company number 02647768, incorporated 23 September 1991 and named Cobalt Development Institute until 20 September 2017; its registered office is 3rd Floor 45 Albemarle Street, Mayfair, London. In its EU Transparency Register filing it describes itself as representing “close to 70% of the world-wide production of cobalt”; its own website states 60 members across six continents and makes no production-share claim. The membership is published as a wall of logos carrying no class labels and no named officeholders, and it is listed by operating entity rather than by parent group — the Institute admitted Metalkol RTR in January 2019 while naming Eurasian Resources Group as its owner, and no Metalkol, Chambishi or ERG entry appears on the list today. Its own assurance framework, CIRAF, has had its annual public reporting obligation suspended since June 2022, and is not mentioned once in the Institute's 77-page Cobalt Market Report 2025, which instead names five third-party schemes as the operative assurance mechanisms for cobalt.
